The Ukrainian company AutoKraZ has signed a deal to supply a large order of trucks to the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos. The 6×6 “Soldat” KrAZ-6322 trucks will be delivered in the standard configuration and then fitted with engines that meet Euro 0 emission standards. Representatives of the Ukrainian company reported that their client chose the vehicle because it is proven, reliable, damage-resistant, and easy to use, maintain and repair.

A major consideration was quick delivery, which is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2015. In order to keep transportation costs low, the vehicles will be delivered in parts to Laos in standard containers and  assembled on site by an AutoKrAZ service team.

Ukraine attaches great importance to this order because it is the first contract with Laos since 1989. The company was a major supplier of trucks to Laos in 1978-1989 when it supplied more than 380 vehicles — mostly the KrAZ-255b.

The “Soldat” is designed to transport people and loads of up to 10 tons, including artillery of up to  203 mm caliber. An unladen vehicle, weighing 12700 kg, can move at a maximum speed of 80 km / h and consumes 39 liters of fuel per 100 km.

Why is Ukraine selling military equipment to Laos when its own army is supplied largely thanks to volunteers?

Ukraine is also supplying the trucks to the army. These things are not mutually exclusive.

Yeah, there is probably nothing wrong with this, and it is probably creating jobs, but I just don’t think Ukrainian companies should be selling military equipment to nominally-communist dictatorships while the Ukrainian army remains under-funded, under-supplied, and at war.

You cannot fund an army without an economy, that brings in enough hard currency to do so. Ukraine needs new export markets to replace the (partly) lost Russian market. We must hope AutoKraZ will be able to augment its production so that it can both serve export markets and Ukraine’s proper civilian and military needs.

There is a war going on ! All what is good for Ukrainia is good enough to fight this war !

        • http://www.info-news.eu/ Info-News

And where would you take $$$ to fund the army? Maybe by exporting stuff?

    • DejaVu

I agree and for those who believe that military contracts are more important than you should remember that Ukraine requisitioned those modernized T-55M’s and in World War II Germany barely exported Tiger or Panther’s to allies such as Italy/Japan.

It needs the money. Simple. Go get it.

Although the Army needs to improve it’s logistics capability dramatically, Ukraine needs to deliver on these contracts and demonstrate it is a reliable trade partner. I just hope they don’t go the Yanuko route ant slight the Army at the for the sake of trade income.

Can they stuff the backs of those trucks with dead russians or will that consist of hazardous waste?

    • Eddy Verhaeghe

      Milton, grow up!

      • Milton Devonair

I know, not all russians are toxic, just the 90% of them that support neo-soviet putin…and 100% of them that are murdering, raping, looting and kidnapping Ukrainians and Crimeans….

Build your economy honestly and the payoff will guarantee Ukraine’s future. Great PR for the new Ukraine.
