The Kyiv State School of Ballet turned down donations collected at a benefit concert in Moscow for the needs of the school by a former student and current ballerina at the Bolshoi Ballet, the Merited Artist of the Russian Federation Svitlana Zakharova, reports zaxid.net, December 13, citing nr2.com.ua.

“The Merited Artist of the Russian Federation Zakharova is one of t he signatories of the statement posted on the website of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation where (cultural workers) firmly express their support for the position of the President of the Russian Federation on Ukraine and Crimea,” the school’s statement reads.

The school’s director, Ivan Doroshenko, pointed out that the donation cannot possibly compensate for Ukraine’s losses as a result of Russian aggression.

“The funds collected as a result of the (benefit) concert are nothing in comparison with the thousands of human casualties, hundreds of thousands of square kilometers of  territory, tens of billions of hryvnias, and other irreplaceable losses that Ukraine has suffered because of the position of the President of the Russian Federation on Ukraine and Crimea,” he said.

According to Doroshenko, the concert “Ballet without borders,” held on December 7 on the historical stage of Moscow’s Bolshoi Theater  in support of the Kyiv school, was “a provocative farce.”
