The ecological disaster may reach Russia
Within several months, a massive ecological disaster may arise on the occupied territory of Donbas, as well as the southern regions of Rostov oblast in Russia, as radioactive waters are rising to the surface from the mines the mercenaries have flooded, reports head of the Independent Miner Trade Union of Ukraine Mykhaylo Volynets, cited by Ukrinform.
“In Yenakiyevo, Poltavska mine has been flooded, nearby they are flooding Vuhlehirska. This is next to Yunkom mine, during whose development, a nuclear explosion occurred in 1979. At the moment the polluted waters from the mine are rising, and within four to five months they will take radioactive materials to the surface. The level of radioactive pollution will surpass the norms thousands of times,” Volynets predicts.
In the 1990s, when, as consequence of so-called restructuring dozens of mines were abandoned in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, the waters from the mines polluted hundreds of hectares of agricultural land lots not only in Ukraine, but in the south of Rostov oblast, as the local mines are connected to the neighboring Ukrainian underground natural channels.
Besides, the poisonous chemical compounds that rise to the surface due to underground waters end up in rivers which are part of the Don basin, and further into the Azov Sea. In particular, there is a threat that monochlorinebenzone might reach it, as 50 tons of it formerly got into the Oleksandr-Zakhid mine in Horlivka.
“Ukraine and Russia should comprehend the impending catastrophe,” emphasized the head the Independent Miner Union.
