Ukrainian army denies demarcation deal with separatists, shelling continues

Reports by rebels about agreed separation lines between Ukraine‬ and the separatist self-proclaimed Donetsk people’s republic are premature and untrue, the spokesman of the Anti-Terrorist Operation, Vladyslav Selezniov, was quoted as saying by the Ukrainian UNIAN news agency at 23:49 Kyiv time on 11 October.

“The document cannot be regarded as the one which has been signed as long as ‘special positions’ continue to be voiced,” Selezniov said, adding that “we are not backtracking from the Minsk protocol and memorandum, we are working exclusively with its framework.”

Previously, Russian media had reported on a demarcation agreement has been signed between‪ Ukraine‬ and the self-proclaimed Donetsk people’s republic.

Meanwhile, “some 36 attacks by uncontrolled rebel groups” were registered over the past 24 hours, the press service of the Anti-Terrorist Operation reported early on 11 October, according to the Censor.net website at 08:16 on 12 October.

Most attacks targeted a network of roadblocks and positions in the vicinity of Debaltseve, Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, and Shchastia, Luhansk Oblast.

“The rebels used mortars, artillery, firearms, anti-tank missiles and multiple launch Grad systems,” the press service said. Soon after midnight the rebels used Grad systems to shell Ukrainian positions near the Pisky village. Ukrainian positions near Kamyanka, Donetsk Oblast, came under mortar fire from 04:20 to 06:50, the press service added.

Over the past 24 hours, the Donetsk airport was once shelled from an anti-aircraft gun and twice from firearms, Censor.net quoted the Anti-Terrorist Operation press service at 08:23 on 12 October. Ukrainian forces are in control of the airport, the report said.

Meanwhile, the situation in Mariupol is stable. Ukrainian forces are working to eliminate groups of saboteurs, the press service said.
