Kernes court cases suspended

The pre-court investigation against Kharkiv Mayor Kernes has been suspended.

This is reported in the response given by the Office of the Prosecutor General to the request made by online resource “Access to Truth.”

“According to article 280 of the Criminal Process Code of Ukraine, the pre-court investigation in the given criminal case of 04/07/2014 has been suspended in light of the suspect’s grave illness,” says the response.

As is known, Kernes is charged with violating part 2 of article 146 (illegal imprisonment or kidnapping), part 2 of article 127 (torture) and part 1 of article 129 (threat of murder) of the Criminal Code.

He was suspected of organizing kidnappings during Euromaidan in Kharkiv.

In March Kernes was informed of the charges according to three articles simultaneously: part 2 of article 146 (illegal imprisonment or kidnapping), part 2 of article 127 (torture) and part 1 of article 129 (threat of murder) of the Criminal Code.

Then the Pechersk district court of Kyiv decided to punish Kernes with partial house arrest (the Mayor was to remain at home between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.). However, the situation changed in the end of April – after an attempt was made on Gennadiy Kernes’ life during his morning jog.

At first, to take the mayor for treatment to Israel, the house arrest was replaced with personal bail.
