Kharkiv Oblast police discovered the body of the missing pro-Ukrainian activist Valeriy Salo in the Hrekivskyy woods in the Luhansk Oblast, reports Radio Svoboda, May 8. Salo was the chairman of the Prosvita (Ukrainian cultural society — Ed.) center in Krasnyy Lyman in the Donetsk Oblast.

The burned car with the burned body of Valeriy Salo was found Thursday, May 8. He had been kidnapped the previous day by militants of the so-called “Donetsk People’s Republic.” The Deputy head of the Prosvita chapter of the Donetsk Oblast, Maria Oliynyk, described the event to Radio Svoboda:

“On May 7 militants of the ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’ kidnapped a resident of the village Shantryholova in the Krasnolymansk district, a farmer who supported the unity of Ukraine, Valeriy Salo,” Oliynuk reported. “They (Prosvita members) were going to hold a meeting of the local branch. His car was stopped in the center of the village. Armed men beat him up and put him unconscious into the trunk of his car and drove off. Today his burned car with the body was found in the Luhansk Oblast,” she said.

Radio Svoboda says it is trying to speak with the Donetsk Oblast police regarding their investigation into the kidnapping and murder of Valeriy Salo.
