Odesa creates its own self-defense battalion

Monday, May 5, 2014, 15:31

Odesa Oblast governor Volodymyr Nemirovskiy has announced that a territorial defense battalion is taking shape in Odesa. It is a special military unit with 400 people.

According to the governor, the task of the battalion is to quickly restore legitimacy and order in the oblast.

“The battalion has been formed by the chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. It will be guided by me as the head of Odesa Oblast State Administration,” Nemirovskiy specified.

“The wages from the budget are not that high but we will pay a bonus from the Patriot charity fund, which is funded by Odesa’s concerned citizens. If you agree, you are welcome to serve. We will give you weapons, a uniform and we will conduct military coordination,” the governor noted.

The mobilization spot is situated at the Odesa Oblast military registration and enlistment office and you can apply at the Defense Coordination Headquarters created at the Odesa Oblast Administration (+380487189497).
